Sasol’s recently unveiled black economic empowerment (BEE) transaction has been welcomed with open arms by analysts who were generally impressed by its well-structured and comprehensive nature. However they do warn that it did pose some downside risks for existing shareholders. NEF CEO Philisiwe Buthelezi tells Engineering News that she expects that other coporates will indeed follow suit. The NEF, which is effectively the State’s broad-based empowerment champion, will work with Sasol and other service providers to get the message out about the offer and would employ both the mass media and educational events.
