Strategic Intent

“The strategic intent is to secure the participation of black South Africans in projects that are still at an early stage in sectors identified by the government as key drivers to South Africa’s economic growth.”

We aim to create a diversified portfolio of projects in which NEF has warehoused equity for the future benefit of black South Africans.

Through SPF, the National Empowerment Fund will facilitate BB-BEE in the following ways:
• Warehouse and distribute equity to BB-BEE at lower valuations once the project is operational or de-risked;
• On behalf of BB-BEE, assume most of the financial and project risk while projects are still at an early stage;
• Assist BB-BEE in structuring their participation in these projects;
• Promote the involvement of black people in company operations at an early stage;
• Promote the sourcing of services and supplies from BB-BEE service providers.
